Description
Rename all weapons based on the outcome of this discussion.
This can affect the following areas:
- Weapons names in the code
- Names in the menu
- Documentation
- Official maps (not quite sure about this one)

Why rename all? We should only need to rename the Nex (obviously), and maybe the Laser (simply as it IS not a laser).

Assuming the weapons MUST be renamed, here's a few ideas:
Laser: Blaster
Shotgun: Tactical Streetsweeper
Super Shotgun (IF one gets implemented, big if): Heavy Streetsweeper
Camping Rifle: Precision Rifle
Machine Gun: Mini SMG
Nex: Magnetic Rifle
Hagar: Explosive shell cannon
HLAC: Pulse Cannon
Personally I think only the Nex and Laser need to be renamed.

I liked the idea of laser being pulse or pulse cannon

I agree with divverent, only nex and maybe laser need renaming. Xon sounds odd though.

I agree with div0 too, renaming everything might be ideal or not, but sure is not strictly necessary. We're about to create a brainstorming post on the forum so we discuss and get more names.

Laser: "Blaster" (I love that)
Shotgun: I would just leave it as simply "Shotgun". However, the secondary-fire could be combined in one-shot - instead of three separate shots. (Sound of a major triple explosion = like a super-shotgun)
Super Shotgun (I like this idea - as an upgrade to your regular shotgun - perhaps all weapons could get upgrades depending on how long you've survived on a map - or by how many kills you get - or as a type of game where you have to seek-out such upgrades which spawn in seemingly random areas.)
Camping Rifle: "Sniping Rifle". (I really think this weapon should be SILENCED - and to be used in a different game-play type like perhaps "Stealth". Although it's related by concept to the Nex because it's a long-distance weapon capable of zooming-in, I also hope that it will be used in slot 7 (A or B) as an alternative rifle to the Nex.)
Machine Gun: For a small machine gun = "SMG" is well establihed world-wide, but we should also have a huge machine-gun as well, ...oh wait - the Hagar kinda fits that. Same slot? Toggable?
Nex: "Rail-Gun" or "Gauss-Gun"; It would be great if the new model-version had the circular concentric rails around the barrel - indicating the powerful electro-magnets used to propel the projectile. BTW: This really should become an instant-kill weapon (instead of two versions), because there is just no way that ANY living thing could survive even being grazed by such a projectile. Rail-Guns fire at speeds far exceeding the speed of sound, upwards of 2520 meters per second - hence my past usage of thunder in the sound-files. Needing two hits or more is very unrealistic since these projectiles can fire through ANYTHING in front of them, so armor-level and/or health-level is redundant. To balance the weapons, players should only be able to use 10 rounds (max) before it overheats, (Unless playing on "Gauss-only" mode.)
Hagar: "Mjöllnir" (Just kidding - too many people wouldn't know how to pronounce that - or that it's name is reference to Thor's Hammer) But perhaps something similar?
Electro: "Phased-Ion Cannon".
Crylink: "Tri-Phyre".
...hmmn, perhaps we could add a description area about each weapon for the players to read - like a mini-wiki on each, describing how the weapons work and what ammo they use and why. The imagination is fueled by such things - making gameplay much more emotionally valid when you score a hit.

I like your nex idea. Overheating hasn't been thought of, but I think it's a great solution.
